How much will I make?
If we only had a nickel for every time we are asked how much we get paid; we could balance our budget. The truth of the matter is that we receive no financial compensation for our day to day services.
However, at the end of three years of qualifying service there is a Maryland tax credit and after twenty such years you may be eligible for a small Government financed pension.
Yet the reward we receive from saving lives, bringing babies into the world, and helping people in their time of need is priceless.. It is extremely rewarding to see the gratitude in a patient or family member's face.
What's in it for me?
We are a 100% volunteer organization. We proudly serve our community for free. You get the satisfaction of helping people who are experiencing medical emergencies and supporting your neighbors and community. Our members range in age from teenagers to senior citizens.
In addition, you receive
Free basic emergency medical technician training.
Retirement after twenty years.
State tax credits after three years of active service.
...and the knowledge that you can really make a difference in someone's life.
Do I need to have medical or special driver training prior to joining Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad?
No, training to enable you to provide basic emergency care to our patients or to drive our emergency vehicles is provided free of charge.
Must I live in Lexington Park to become a member?
We do not have a resident's only policy. Our members come from many of the surrounding communities. One of our members regularly commuted from College Park.
If I join as a "driver-only" can I later change my mind and transition to full member status so that I can train as an EMT?
Certainly. A significant number of our driver-only folks have opted to qualify as both driver and care provider.
I'm not sure I can handle the 'blood, sweat, and tears' nature of emergency medicine. Can I 'sample' the work to see if it is for me?
Yes, we have a program that permits you to accompany a crew on calls as an observer to experience what our volunteer role is. The vast majority of our applicants find that the training provided permits them to function quite effectively in emergency situations.
How can I join?
